why password

serious about security.
simple to use.

fully local

every calculation runs inside your browser tab. nothing is sent to any server — not even anonymous telemetry.

real-time scoring

strength updates as you type so you can iterate character by character until your password is genuinely solid.

zero friction

no sign-up, no extension, no app download. open the page, test your password, close the tab.

how it works

five rules.
one score.

password measures five properties of your password. each one you satisfy raises your score — and makes real-world crack time exponentially longer.

01

length

passwords under 8 characters can be cracked in seconds. length is the single most powerful lever you have.

02

uppercase letters

mixing case expands the character set an attacker must search through at every position.

03

lowercase letters

standard baseline — required for case-mixing to deliver its full entropy benefit.

04

numbers

adds 10 more symbols to the search space for every character position in your password.

05

symbols

over 30 common symbols. including even one multiplies the search space dramatically.

tips

what actually makes
a password hard to crack.

length

longer is always better

a 16-character password is not twice as hard to crack as an 8-character one — it's billions of times harder. aim for at least 12 characters on every account that matters.

variety

mix character types

each type you include multiplies the search space. uppercase + lowercase + numbers + symbols turns a mediocre password into a genuinely hard target.

pattern

avoid real words

attackers run dictionary attacks before brute-force. "Password1!" fails immediately. a nonsense passphrase like horse-fire-tunnel-99 is far harder to crack.

hygiene

never reuse passwords

if one site is breached, every account sharing the same password is at risk. use a password manager — it generates and stores unique passwords for every site.
